Instead of Jeans, Why Not Try 1 of These 5 Fashion-Forward Outfits this Weekend
When you're off the clock, you wanna be comfy. But does that automatically have to mean jeans? Jeans are awesome (I only have, like, a gazillion pairs in my closet) but change is good. Here are five awesome items that you can wear in place of jeans this fall ... but better in a way because you'll stand out so effortlessly from the jeans-wearing weekend masses:
1. INSTEAD OF JEANS, TRY A JUMPSUIT!
Jumpsuits are flattering, easy to wear & a cinch to dress up or down with a simple switch out of shoes, bag & jacket. Here, the slouchy-chic & easygoing color of the jumpsuit paired with your fave denim jacket gives the look its relaxed weekend vibe, while a touch of glitz on your toes & your earlobes keeps it snazzy. (TIP: shades of gray & charcoal look fantabulous with cooler-toned metals like silver & platinum.)
ABOUT THE LOOK: denim jacket - Proenza Schouler; jersey jumpsuit - MICHAEL Michael Kors; silver hoop earrings - Bottega Veneta; glittery paddock boots - Miu Miu; canvas tote - See by Chloe; sunglasses - Thierry Lasry
2. INSTEAD OF JEANS, TRY A SLIM DENIM PENCIL SKIRT!
A feminine way to get your dose of denim is in a flattering & uber-feminine pencil jean-skirt in a slim cut. The dark wash looks fabu with black leather & choosing an edgier biker jacket keeps the look more fashion forward. Step out in elegant equestrian boots & a snuggly bulky knit in cozy cream for the epitome of Parisienne chic.
ABOUT THE LOOK: biker jacket - Kenzo; stretch-denim pencil - Mother; knee-high boots - Gucci; sweater - Alexander McQueen; silver-shell pendant necklace - Bottega Veneta; sunglasses - Stella McCartney; tote - Victoria Beckham
3.INSTEAD OF JEANS, TRY A PAIR OF SILK JODHPURS
How completely cool are these Altuzarra cargos with the jodhpur silhouette in luxurious silk crepe de chine? So cool ... which is probably why they immediately sold out at Net-a-Porter, despite the $1,500 price tag. The inky hue looks elegantly monochromatic paired with a denim jacket and instead of a tee, slip on one of fall's fab color-blocked tops with a boxy 60s vibe. You could always do a black flat boot or bootie, but a more interesting choice of footwear is a desert-boot style or lace-up oxford with a coordinating (but not too "matchy") suede hobo.
ABOUT THE LOOK: silk cargo pants - Altuzarra; denim jacket - Proenza Schouler; silk top - Preen; silver-shell necklace - Bottega Veneta; knit beanie - Missoni; sunglasses - Alexander Wang; ankle boots - Rag & Bone; "Jackie" nubuck hobo - Gucci
4. INSTEAD OF JEANS, TRY SKINNIES IN A SOFT (FAUX) LEATHER!
To take leather skinnies a more unexpected direction (but still comfy...please note the low-heeled boot!) pair them with a preppy blouse & booties separates for a classy, collegiate feel. The beanie, bag & scarf all contain soft & pretty shades of fall's hot hue: burgundy.
ABOUT THE LOOK: denim jacket - Proenza Schouler; blouse - Tory Burch; faux leather skinnies - ALICE by Temperley; ankle boots - Rag & Bone; beanie - Missoni; cashmere & silk scarf - Chan Luu; bag - Pierre Hardy; ring - Alexander McQueen
5. INSTEAD OF JEANS, TRY A SLINKY MIDI-LENGTH JERSEY DRESS!
Jersey-knit dresses in classic neutral colors are true multitaskers. Pairing this one with funky frames & a repeated pattern of two-tone - the vest, boot & bag - gives the dress an artsy vibe but still casual (again, please note the flat & comfy heel). Pull a Moleskin diary out of the your bag & write (yes, as in handwrite) furiously with a fountain pen & you're sure to be taken for a writer, artiste or someone really, really interesting.
ABOUT THE LOOK: draped-jersey dress - Amanda Wakely; vest - Karl; ankle boots - NewbarK; necklace - Bottega Veneta; frames - Oliver Peoples; bag - Pierre Hardy; diary - Moleskine; "stealth" fountain pen - Monteverde
NOTE: All the items in each look are available at Net-a-Porter.com.
