With the Jubilee celebrations putting the spotlight squarely on Queen Elizabeth II, it's only natural that costume-history loving designers are also inspired to look back to her famous namesake, Elizabeth I (1533-1603). Like Serena Gili, a recent graduate of that teaming hotbed of outrageously cool talent otherwise known as Central Saint Martins.
The second runner-up winner of the L'Oreal Professional Young Design Talent Award created a standout with a sihouette that looked backward & forward in time simultaneously. The dramatic capsule-shaped skirts - in stripped-down shades of white, black & gold - were juxtaposed against bibs embellished with embroideries as intricate & delicate as the skirts were bold, space-age & sleek.
