LOOK #1: RIGHT NOW
Sometimes items that can at first blush seems like really, REALLY frivolous fashion splurges end up being the very thing that puts some fun back into your closet and you end up wearing constantly. Take this pair of excellent kicks by Christian Louboutin.
"Brogues," you think. "Well, um, okay. They're a classic. And they're Loubies. But blinding highlighter-yellow...?"
Absolutely, blinding highlighter-yellow!
Until the full-on swelter of summer hits, rock them with jeans (above), preferably a pair of artfully shredded crops. Toss on a chic white 3/4 length tee or buttondown and finish it all off with matching neon satchel & sunnies. Some dangly, 80s-inspired lightning bolt earrings add a fun final bit o' finesse.
LOOK #2: PRE SUMMER
As beach season arrives, invite the seaside home & straight into your closet with a nautical-striped tee, stripey tote & sailor-worthy wide-legged pants. The yellow undertones of the gold topper & sunglasses play well with the yellow of the shoes.
LOOK #3: SUMMER
One thing to know about neon is that it pairs really, really well with animal prints. Leopard is a neutral these days, leaving you free to really go for it with more yellow in the easy-breezy tank & touches of mustard in the tote. Again, the neutral hue of the hat & sunglasses tie right back in with the pants, while a bright red pendant is kinda like the period you put at the end of a sentence: necessary!
LOOK #4: EARLY FALL
When summer's over, keep those sunny memories alive by continuing to rock the brogues, this time with a coordinating bag against another neutral palette: rockstar gray & gunmetal. And in a metallic leather skinny jean for extra style points with a casually-slouchy top, again in an animal print, this time a tone-on-tone gray snake. Since fall weather is unpredictable, a classic trench in a deep grey or classic black is perfect for days when the weather isn't.
LOOK #5: FALL
A snuggly knit feels so cozy on those brisk, crisp autumn days, again in a nice neutral with coordinating hobo - the better for showing off those fabulous shoes. (The fun neon stripe down the side of the gray skinnies looks quite cool as well.) Touches of yellow in the tee & the earrings make the total look cohererent and fabulous.
The "Havana" patent brogues by Christian Louboutin are available here. (At right is yet another chic way to rock them, this time against a graphic sartorial palette of white & black.)
