Stylish Eco Chic Knitwear from the Faroe Islands that Bids You a Hearty "Stuttligt at hitta teg!"
...and we're equally pleased to meet you! "You" being Gudrun & Gudrun, owned by two Faroese lovelies who oversee the handmade creations which mirror the dark, mystical and aesthetically-refined feel of the 18 tiny islands.
Faroese sheep who reside in the mountains year round, contentedly grazing on unfertilized grass (= happy, healthy sheep) provide the wool for their striking knits which are made by hand the traditional way: with a good dose of daydreaming & therapeutic visiting. "While knitting you can let your thoughts fly. You can watch TV. And you can have a chat. After a good and positive day the knit might be a little looser than after a tough day. You might very well be able to see those feelings in the finished garment. What mood was the starting point for the knitting session, you will always feel relaxed afterwards. You might call it therapy – we just call it knitting."
Although remote, the isolation of the archipelago - only 45,000 inhabitants & waaaaay out there in the North Atlantic between Iceland, Norway & the Shetland Islands - actually helps inspires the creative process. "It’s good to visit to Europe for input and inspiration," they epxlain, "but it's crucial to come back home to the silence and not be disturbed by the hectic life of fashion." Nor the all-too-common waste generated by ubiquitous fast fashion. "The G&G vision is to make a difference. One which is very simple and yet very ambitious. We want to make clothes that live up to the standards of conscious consumers that do care about each other, the environment, our common natural resources merged with the desire to be stylish."
Since I don't know how to say "how fabulous!" in Faroese, "Luftpútufar mítt er (skít)fult í álli!" will have to do ("My hovercraft is full of eels!" - apparently an extremely useful Faroese phrase).
