Rob Pruitt x Jimmy Choo - Cruise 2013
Since emerging on the New York art scene in the late '80s with paintings of glittering panda bears, sculptural blue jeans and a silvered Andy Warhol monument, Rob Pruitt has become known for his wit and visual exuberance that blends the playful with the profound. Fascinated equally with fashion and pop culture, Pruitt even hosted his very own Art Awards - a conceptual foil for the Academy Awards - in 2009 & 2010 at the Guggenheim.
Come fall, he will be teaming up with Jimmy Choo on a capsule collection for Cruise 2013 of shoes, bags & small leather goods. "We were captivated by Pruitt’s energy, his computer screen use of colour and the festive exuberance of his prints and materials; there were elements in his work that reminded us in subtle ways of the Jimmy Choo design iconography," note the brand's Creative Directors, Sandra Choi & Simon Holloway, who often reference contemporary art when conceptualizing new collecitons and have previously partnered with Nan Goldin (Cruise 2012), Marilyn Minter (Cruise 2011) & Richard Phillips (S/S 2008). "We sensed that Rob’s twist on Jimmy Choo glamour would yield something very collectible and uniquely beautiful."
Available starting in November 2012 at JimmyChoo.com.
