After her mother's suicide, Jac L'Etoile fled to America to forget her painful past, her memories infused with the exotic scents she grew up as heir to a storied French perfume house. And 14 years later, the past comes calling when she discovers she and her brother, Robbie, inherited the company, along with its financial problems.
Plus a corpse.
Having hinted an earth-shattering discovery in the family archives, Robbie goes missing, a dead body in his wake. Jac finds herself plunged back into the world she thought she'd left behind & further haunted by a strange story dating from 1799: the intriguing legend of a scent that can unlock the mystery of reincarnation.
From revolutionary France to Tibet's battle with China to the glamour of modern-day Paris, the ancient perfume someone is willing to kill for holds the key.
In doing research for "The Book of Lost Fragrances", author M.J. Rose spent more than two and half years examining ancient treatises on perfumery and alchemy, traveling to flower farms and conventions, as well as studying with fragrance architects, famous noses & niche perfumers. And while writing, she helped bring her world to life by burning incense and her favorite JOYA candles created by Frederick Bouchardy.
