The glamorous star of "The Good Wife" plays one that was one...until her Eliot Spitzer-like troll of a hubs (Chris Noth) got hisself embroiled in a juicy sex scandal, tossed out of his high-profile gig as a state's attorney & straight into jail. Standing by your man in these cases does not bills pay nor the cost of two kids cover, so she returns to her former career as a lawyer - a junior litigator at the bottom of the corporate food chain.
"People relate to everything, from her putting her career on hold for 13 years to being a working mother, to having a husband who’s cheating, to having an affair of her own, to having a daughter who gives her grief for drinking a glass of wine," Margulies tells More magazine (April 2012) about her character, Alicia Florrick. "But I’ve always had that kind of face. Even in high school, I was the girl people told their problems to."
And send emails to...like former ER cast mate George Clooney. "We just e-mailed. All the accolades—it’s been a good year for both of us."
A streak which started with her supposed career "suicide" when she turned down 27 million reason$ to extend her ER contract. "My dad said, 'If you got hit by a bus tomorrow, were you living your life truthfully, or were you waiting to get rich?' If I died and my soul started leaving my body, would I be looking down going, ‘You idiot. You could have gone to Prague, you could have been on Broadway’? Those are the things I wanted to do." So as a 32 year old who was focused enough to have completely paid off a mortgage and have a year's worth of work waiting, she jumped. "I was under no illusion that I was going to be some big movie star," she adds humbly.
Her charmed life now includes having burgers, dancing & cocktailing with her cast mates turned friends Alan Cumming & Christine Baranski, and working with stars like Michael J. Fox or F. Murray Abraham. Yes, the days maybe long (16 hours or more) but thrilling. "I get high from it."
