The Gift You Want to Keep on Giving: Miracles
"There are only two ways to live your life," Albert Einstein once observed. "One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." Intuitive psychologist and author Susan Apollon agrees, having spent over 20 years studying the nature of miracles and when they occur. Her conclusion? Each and every one of us can receive these natural gifts because we are all spiritually connected to a wellspring of goodness, regardless of what you call it (the Divine, God, Allah, the Universe...).
In Apollon's most recent book, "Touched by the Extraordinary, Book Two: Healing Stories of Love, Loss & Hope" (HealingStoriesOfLoveLossAndHope.com), she has collected stories of messages sent from love-ones who passed on, visitations from guardian angels and other signs - all real-life occurrences that fall squarely into the category of "miracles". What they all had in common was how they made people feel: blessed, safe, holy, divine, protected, not alone, cheered up, comforted. According to Apollon and other New Age thinkers like Deepak Chopra, studies of Quantum Physics confirm that living with the right mindset means a life filled with miracles, both minute and momentous.
The trick is fostering your ability to invite them in. To receive your own miracles, here Apollon offers these suggestions:
• ALLOW YOURSELF TO BELIEVE THE EXTRAORDINARY IS POSSIBLE "As a psychologist who has sat with patients who have shared countless wondrous stories of small and large miraculous events in their lives, I have come to recognize that the ability to experience miracles is often dependent on whether or not you choose to allow for the possibility of miracles in your life," notes Apollon. Your part is to accept and then allow the Universe to do its good and expect it to respond accordingly.
• MAKE TIME FOR A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE Whether it's taking time to pray, meditate, do yoga, or simply breathe deeply while focusing on the present, take time to connect with your soul. Practice regularly until you feel connected to the Universe and everything in it.
• COMMIT TO CHANGE What you think determines what you believe. To start changing negative beliefs, you have to become aware of what you're thinking, and, ultimately, learn to replace negative or disturbing thoughts & images with ones that are positive and empowering. Apollon points out that this is especially important for anyone suffering an illness because "anxiety and desperation have a strong tendency to block your ability to heal."
• KEEP A SYNCHRONICITY JOURNAL Coincidences that are meaningful reveal life to be a connected web of moments, signs and symbols. And the more that they occur, the more they point to something greater - so Apollon suggests keeping record. "The numbers will be far greater than you may have imagined."
• WRITE YOUR INTENTIONS DOWN Be joyful and enthusiastic as you do and be detailed about exactly what you want from the Universe daily. "Expect good things to be placed in your path and they will come––be it a spiritual visit from a passed loved one, a new chance in a waning relationship, or a miraculous recovery."
Above all, stay positive! Your attitude is the single most important factor in the creation of miracles. "My overarching message is that life itself is extraordinary––miraculous!" adds Apollon. "And all it takes to realize that is to open your eyes and see the amazing things that surround us all, every day." What better way to begin fresh in the New Year than with a new faith-based attitude that risks little sorrow and at most promises unprecedented hope and joy?
