Accessories Shopping Excuse Alert: Tell Time Using an Actual Watch from Time-Piece Watches (Instead of Your Latest Gadget)
In addition to her ginormous oversized sunnies and excellent taste in spouses, style icon Jackie O was also known for signature watch: a classic Cartier Tank timepiece. However, if you don't happen to have married money (yet) or aren't (yet) sporting a billionaire on your non-watch arm, Sekonda has a fabulous men's watch - that's perfect for a fashionista's wrist - that will only set you back about $35 (22GBP) from Time-Piece Watches.
Founded in 1991 by Martyn Warren (with a lil' help from dad, Denis), Time-Piece Watches started as a small kiosk that quickly expanded to a mini 8-outlet empire, based on their super-fast on-the-spot service. They recently launched online, and carry hundreds of cool watches from a wide range of brands from the Jackie-approved (Accurist, DKNY, Mondaine, Rotary, Royal London, Seiko, Timex), to the trendy (Adidas, Ben Sherman, Bench, Flik Flak, Hello Kitty, Lego, Seksy), to the fashiony (Armani Exchange, Casio, Diesel, Fossil, Lacoste, LTD, Police, Skagen, Swatch).
We also love learning about the history of watches, and one of the cool features of the Time-Piece site that makes browsing fun is that they also include some background on the various brands. We learned, for instance, that:
- Timex is the current-day successor to the Waterbury Watch Company which was founded in the US in 1854
- Sekonda has been the UK's best selling watch brand for the last two decades
- in 1895, Moise Dreyfuss opened the first Rotary watch factory in the Swiss town of La Chaux de Fonds & and in 1940, the brand was appointed the official watch supplier to the British Army
And as an added bonus should you happen to reside on the London side of the Pond, you'll also get free UK delivery from Time-Piece!
