Harry Allen for Marc Jacobs Bang: A Fabulous Bottle for a Rockin' Men's Fragrance

Rectangular, spherical, cylindrical, conical….yawn….wake me up when a men's fragrance bottle lands on counters that's interesting, say a dodecahedron - not to mention, with something equally interesting inside. Like Marc Jacobs Bang. We recently crowned this offbeat scent the best mass market men's fragrance of the year, if not the past two years, and were glad to see equal care was taken in choosing a designer for the container that Yann Vasnier's imaginative juice deserves.

Designer Harry Allen created a geometry-defying bottle, full of angles & corners to visually say "BANG!" “My team and I distilled the brand message to its core, taking hammer to metal," he explains. "The form is digitally lifted from a piece of metal I struck with a hammer in my studio. The impact captured is honest, spontaneous, masculine, and fun.” Most obviously, of course, with the way the logo is placed in the middle and mirror-imaged on the back of the bottle, as if it had been hammered through to the other side.

Perhaps others will now be similarly inspired to pick up a hammer of their own and bang away at anything too run-of-the-mill.
