Get Healthy for Life with this 6-Month Plan by Dr. Oz for "AARP The Magazine"
When he's not appearing on Oprah, Dr. Mehmet Oz is one of the country's most accomplished cardiothoracic surgeons and tireless evangelists for healthy living. He recently came up with a 6-month plan for the May/June 2010 issue of AARP The Magazine to help get your health in order for the long run using an effective combination of exercise and sensible vegan-based diet designed to ward off diseases like cancer.
Here's what you'll need to do daily:
- walk 30 minutes
- brush & floss
- drink 2 cups of green tea
- take supplements including Omega 3s, Vitamin D & calcium
- sleep 7-8 hours per night
For the next six months, here is what the good doc recommends:
MONTH 1 Diet Makeover: he lays out a three-day diet designed to jump-start your body to lose weight
>MONTH 2 Tests & Numbers: a list of important medical tests and tests that you can do at home to ensure your health will stay on track
MONTH 3 Ramp Up Your Exercise: a new 4-week plan focused on weightlifting, flexibility, and balance
MONTH 4 Manage Your Stress: encouragement to engage in daily activities like deep breathing and meditation to reduce chronic stress
MONTH 5 Find Purpose: challenges to help you clearly define what you want out of life, helping to add you an overall sense of wellness
MONTH 6 The Big Picture: retake the tests from Month 2 to see how your numbers have improved since starting the plan
