Almost seven decades elapsed before in-house perfumer, Jacques Polge, was to complete the story.
The finest vetiver oil is extracted and distilled from the plant’s small, thin root-like capillaries which tenaciously grip the depths of the earth, only revealing their marvelous olfactory complexity after hours of strenuous extraction from their subterranean hiding place. The distillation similarly requires a careful hand and exceptional precautions, not to mention hours upon hours of patience and care, which give SYCOMORE its admirable olfactory complexity. And this purest patience is rewarded… with a sublime scent.
Balsamic and earthy, warm and enveloping, there are nuances of warm toasted nuts on the skin. Polge kept the idea of uncomplicated lines by simply weaving it with a sandalwood note; no highlighting with flowers or other embellishments or compromises were needed to discover this vetiver vérité. “I didn’t attempt to create or compose a fragrance,” he explains. “I simply wanted to work with a woody note. I wanted something without ambiguity, with no other tones but those provided by the essences.”
This is a ‘shared fragrance’ and equally mesmerizing on both men and women. SYCOMORE is available exclusively at select CHANEL boutiques, Chanel.com, Bergdorf Goodman and select Saks Fifth Avenue locations.
