Tribal Touches for Stylish Nomads
As a result of Marc Jacobs's trendsetting collaboration with shoe designer Fabrizio Viti for Spring 2009, versions of the tribal sandal are everywhere this season, along with masses of ethnic inspired accessories. To get the LV look without the pricetag, try the "Katrin" sandal from Bebe, L.A.M.B.'s knotted "Gabina" tribal strap sandal, or the beaded Steven by Steve Madden "Bianna." The Tory Burch "Carrie" patent wedge adorned with a geometric pattern is reminiscent of frescoed African wall paintings, while an exquisite example of gorgeous handwork is the richly textured "Boudica" cuff from Erickson Beamon.
Key to this look are lush details such as beading, embroidery, knotting, weaving and a multitude of textures layered and trimmed with feathers, natural stones and animal prints. Think sophisticated globetrotter gathering trinkets and baubles from her travels to the farthest reaches of the Asia, Africa, and South America, and layering her arm with richly embroidered cuffs while she embellishes her feet with strands of beads, exotic skins and feathers.
And when you jet off on your globetrotting adventure, don't forget your own tribal horn necklace and oversized Roberto Cavalli Zebra print shopper.
