Thierry Mugler Costumes Beyonce's Sasha Fierce
When he was last hugely popular in the Mighty 80s, Thierry Vuhl-GARE as he was then nicknamed (but for all the right reasons) was known for extravagant silhouettes, like his Outer Space Mermaid from F/W 96/97 ensemble (below) showcased in the Met's recent show: Superheroes - Fashion & Fantasy. As part of an apparent new millenium comeback, the designer has also signed on to Beyonce's latest world tour as the image-maker behind her fearless alter ego.
“Sasha
Fierce is another aspect of Beyoncé’s personality,” Mugler told WWD about the visual elements
of the show he designed, including the lights, sets, and costumes - a mix of "power glam" and girlie (bustles; lacy gloves with fishnet crafted from metal). “She is Fierce on stage and Beyoncé in real life. I tried to understand these two sides with my own perception of both aspects...The duality between being a woman and a warrior. Feminine. Free. Warrior. Fierce. As a creative adviser for this tour, it is my responsibility to make her vision come true." (via WWD)
