According to Marc Jacobs, he knew exactly who he wanted to embody the spirit of the season for Spring/Summer 2009: Madonna. Her Madgesty will appear as the face of LV's Spring/Summer fashion campaign striking provocative poses in the season's sexy short skirts, ethnic-inspired sandals, and animal-print bangles against a backdrop straight out of 1940s Paris. Shot by fashion A-lister Steven Meisel, with hair by Garren and makeup by Pat McGrath, the look is quintessential Parisienne, down to the sepia-toned zinc bar, bentwood, chairs, and, of course, lots of smoke.
"I wanted the campaign to be very bold, very sensual and very atmospheric," explains the Louis Vuitton designer. "To carry off all these references and all this sophistication, we needed the ultimate performer – and for me, that is Madonna." Agrees Antoine Arnault, Head of Communications for Louis Vuitton: "We are delighted to have Madonna as the star of our new fashion campaign. These are absolutely stunning shots whose rich imagery truly recaptures the magic of what was an unforgettable fashion show."
When the campaign breaks in the February 2009 issue of magazines worldwide, the first visuals will show Madonna with the collection's emblematic slouchy bags in Monogram canvas and Monogram-embossed leather.
