Gossip Girl Blair Waldorf on Teen Vogue Cover
Possibly the most iconic brunette to hit NYC's Upper East Side since Holly Golightly, Leighton Meester was drawn to her character, Blair Waldorf - generously described as difficult - from her first audition for the part. "I loved the character and the script," says Leighton in an in-depth interview in February 2009 Teen Vogue. "I just understood Blair – she's seemingly flawless but has the same problems and the same issues as anybody else has at that age. I feel like that's why people find her so intriguing."
Although her personality has little in common with the conniving uber-bitch she plays, their fashion sense is similar. "I'm not going to walk around in a costume, but playing her has made me realize that I can have fun with my clothes. I really am much more aware now about designers and trends but it hasn't really changed me so much day to day. I love dressing down. I want to look good but still be comfortable." Although Leighton counts Marc Jacobs, Milly and Catherine Malandrino as some of her favorites, she notes: "I don't go designer crazy because I don't have the energy."
New episodes of Gossip Girl air on The WB starting January 5th, 2009. The February issue of Teen Vogue will be on sale December 30, 2008. In the mean time, check out a video of Leighton's Teen Vogue cover shoot at TeenVogue.com.
