The real story at Madonna's recent show in Los Angeles was not the duet she sang with Britney, but how fresh and fabulous Brit Brit looked in this fashion-forward - yet age appropriate - tuxedo'ish ensemble. But instead of wearing the black satin pants right at (or above) her waist, she wore them way too low given how wide they are, prompting DListed to compare them to M.C.Hammer pants. However, you can safely avoid being fashion roadkill by following these ironclad rules:
- One word: Spanx! Shiny fabric is unforgiving, particularly over lumps and bumps, so stay smooth and flawless in Spanx highwaisted, footless pantyhose.
- High Waist To offset the fattening effects of the width of the pant, get as much length as possible by choosing a pair that sits right at the natural waist or even a little above (like this elegant silk twill version by Victoria's Secret at right.)
- Heels Wearing a shiny wide-legged trouser with flats is a fashion felony. The higher the heel, the longer the pant can be, so look as lanky as possible in the most towering pair of kicks you can manage and have the pant hem almost hit the ground. (One possibility would be to buy an extra-long pair, and then have your tailor do a fitting with you in the shoes in order to get the length exactly right.)
Here's what you'll need to snag Britney's look, plus some stylish extras: an uber-chic leopard jacket to stay warm, cute clutch in lipstick red for essentials, and eyecatching earrings and statement ring:
...and don't forget a chic red mani/pedi! Try Desire by Nubar - all their polishes are free of Formaldehyde, Toluene, and DBP Phthalate.
