Fictitious Muses, Really Cool Clothes
Fabulous Ella Branford, a top NYC fashion editor is headed for Milan to scout shoot locations, models, and interview insiders...as well as shop Via Montenapoleone, party in the hot Navigli district, and soak up some opera at La Scala. The Mustique-bound Marlena Smathurst is jetting to Mustique, while Ally Saige, possibly the most chic zoologist ever, is off to South Africa to visit the Singita Game Reserves.
Each one, a fabulous modern fashionista, and each one, an invented avatar.
“What’s missing today is fantasy,” explains Yansi Fugel to WWD about inventing fun characters to spice up spring for her line of luxe travel separates, Travel Jersey. “We need that, we need fiction. And coming up with a great story, it’s entertaining; it's fun."
Instead of the fantastic but truly impractical confections that are often sent down the runway in the name of "resort", Travel Jersey's jackets, tops, dresses, hoodies, and separates are made from knit jersey that is wrinkle-resistant, season-proof, and easy to pack. "The clothes pack to nothing, and you can wear and layer the pieces in different ways...I did a lot of research in terms of what you need at each place,” she explains about matching the clothes to the location, such as Marla's Mustique capsule wardrobe which contains outfits for "playing tennis, sunset horseback riding, island-hopping on a catamaran...It's whatever you would take with you, the total package." Similarly, the South Africa collection has animal prints and other safari-friendly looks, while Milan is all about LBDs, smart jackets and embellished tanks.
As part of her clever lifestyle approach, the website - which launches in February 2009 - will also have insider recommendations on where to eat, stay, shop, and party. "It's one click and everything’s there. I went through it all as if I was planning the trip for myself." (photos John Aquino via WWD)
