Whitney Biennial Artist Tees for Gap Bridge the Gap between Art & Fashion
Starting May 15, Gap will be celebrating their sponsorship of the 2008 Whitney Biennial - held every two years to highlight important contemporary American art - with the launch of their first-ever Artist Edition T-Shirt series. Co-presented by the Whitney Museum of American Art and the non-profit Art Production Fund (dedicated to expanding awareness of art via ambitious public art projects), this extremely limited edition collection is designed by 13 previous Biennial participants and some of today's most influential artists: Chuck Close, Jeff Koons, Marilyn Minter, Kiki Smith, Cai Guo-Qiang, Barbara Kruger, Ashley Bickerton, Kenny Scharf, Glenn Ligon, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Kerry James Marshall, Hanna Liden and Sarah Sze.
The innovative marketing campaing was developed by Laird + Partners and shot in black and white - with the tees in color - by A-list fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin featuring the artists in the tees they designed, along with models Stephanie Seymour in the t-shirt designed by Jeff Koons and Shalom Harlow in the Barbara Kruger tee.
The shirts range in price from $28-$28, and will be available at select Gap stores, the Whitney, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Colette in Paris, and at Gap.com.
