Clever fashion design student Rebecca Howard of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) recently saved seven pairs of chinos from a fate as soccer mom gear, transforming them into this hand-dyed, side-lacing corset which will be auctioned off in San Francisco on April 26th to benefit the homeless as part of the Discarded to Divine runway fashion show.
"In addition to the recycled and dyed pants, the green canvas fabric was created from fabric scraps collected after the cut and sew process," notes FIDM Fashion Design Department Coordinator Janice Paredes. "Clippings were sorted by color and blended. This method ensures less new dyes or harmful chemicals pollute our planet. Truly a 'green' design!"
