Underground-NYC, a New Fashion Artisan Market, Opens in NYC's Historic Garment District
Thanks to exhorbitant, relentlessly rising rents & costs, many small boutiques and interesting fashion outlets have continued to abandon Manhattan. However, a new, affordable option just became available for small designers & indie manufacturers. Located at 128 West 37th St. in New York's Garment Center, the 10,000 square foot, 50-space Underground-NYC market features everything from jewelry to custom designed handbags, unique clothing, and even leather goods designed & made on the spot.
"We are really excited to open this market in the Garment Center," says Jonathan Ressler, one of the three brothers behind the venture. "As the Garment Center becomes more and more unreachable for the smaller designer and artisan with rising rents, we wanted to open a space where artisans would be able to show and sell their goods at a reasonable price. Being in the center of the fashion capital of the world helps our vendors as well as buyers for major chains are in the neighborhood every day. We believe this is the future for smaller designers as they can do retail and potentially wholesale in the same space."
Underground-NYC is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am- 7pm. For more info, visit Underground-NYC.com.
