To celebrate the influence of Blacks in fashion - from the players, to the clothes to those who've made fashion history - Ebony is dedicating 50-plus pages to everything beautiful in fashion.
Tyra Banks, Iman, Kimora Lee Simmons & Alek Wek grace the cover of the No. 1 magazine for African-Americans (with a devoted monthly readership of 12 million) and detail their individual tales of transformation from mere models to moguls, along with the reality of being a woman of color in the fashion industry. "A lot of the times the fashion world doesn't give a lot of attention to American Black girls from urban areas," notes Banks on Page 64. "I don't mean to pat my own back, but America's Next Top Model pulled down the curtain to this world that people thought they couldn't be a part of. Now every girl is like, 'I want to be a model.' I feel like the world is more accessible, but by no means is it less prestigious."
The September issue hits the stands Monday, August 13.
