Staying Hydrated is the Key to Summer Beauty & Health. FASHIONTRIBES BEAUTY BLOG
A clinical study by Cornell Medical Center found that more than 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. According to the International Bottled Water Association:
- only 1 in 5 people drink the recommended eight glasses of water per day
- 44% drink three or fewer servings of water per day
- 10% of people surveyed report drinking no water at all
During the summertime, it’s more important than ever to beat the heat and exhaustion by drinking the recommended eight glasses . Celebrity nutritionist Phil Goglia, founder of premiere nutrition and fitness clinic Performance Fitness Concepts - whose A-list clients include Owen Wilson, Gillian Anderson, Jeff Goldblum & Laura Dern - has these tips to keep from drying out this summer:
- Look for food and drink options that are natural & fresh. The summer heat can induce fatigue and stress, increasing the chances of heat exhaustion, so try to avoid processed fare such as fast food, chips and pre-packaged sweets that are high in sodium and hidden calories. Instead, look for all-natural, nutrient-rich foods and beverages to help maintain a good energy level.
- Avoid soda & specialty coffee drinks. High sugar content not only contributes to weight gain, but, when combined with caffeine, contributes to dehydration.
- Bring your water with. Whether you’re headed to the beach, the corner store, or out for a day of fun in the sun, don't leave home without a bottle of H 20.
- Helpful kid-friendly hydration hint: If you can’t get the kids to drink plain water, resort to trickery by giving them a fun, fruity popsicle made from flavored, nutrition-enhanced water. They'll believe they're enjoying a frozen treat, when really what they're getting is a daily dose of vitamins as well as a boost of water.
