October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Hillcrest Valenova Wellness Spa in Port Hope, Ontario, is launching a new program designed to help breast cancer survivors and their supporters choose healthy responses to the stress of critical illness. During the retreat, guests participate in a customized workshop and individual stress management session delivered by Robin Dines, Stress and Wellness Consultant certified by The Canadian Institute of Stress.
"By helping women understand their unique ‘stresstype’, or way of responding to stressful situations, they can take action to build a healthier response to everyday stresses," explains Dines. "The physical benefits are immediate -- deeper breathing, increased mental focus and a more confident, optimistic outlook on life, even during the most critical of illnesses."
Situated on 15 serene acres with panoramic views of Lake Ontario, this CAA/AAA 4-Diamond wellness spa offers a variety of invigorating and healing spa treatments using organic, biodynamic Dr. Hauschka products. A mature, experienced staff is on hand, each of whom has a friend or family member touched by breast cancer. Spa Manager Simone Beitler explains, "We have the utmost regard for our guests’ dignity and privacy. The one-to-one ratio of staff-to-guest allows us to truly be 'daymakers.' This could be as simple as taking a reflexology treatment to a guest’s suite so they can be tucked into bed immediately following. We look for whatever might heighten the well-being of the person in that moment."
