Meet a Member of Duran Duran Without Leaving Home. The Group Will Soon be Setting Up Rock Star-Worthy Digs in Second Life, and Even Plan to Perform in the Virtual World. FASHIONTRIBES POP CULTURE BLOG
Joining the close to 400,000 people who are addicted to Second Life, plans are afoot for 80s pop act Duran Duran to create its own universe inside the wildly popular virtual world. Each member of the band will have an avatar - or online representation - who lives & even performs there. (The Second Life show schedule will mirror the first life tour schedule.) "Second Life has brought a third dimension to the Internet," reports eOnline.com about keyboardist Nick Rhodes statement on Duran Duran's website. "It is the new frontier where dreams have become reality. Whatever you can imagine is now possible. When the video revolution began we instantly saw the opportunity to experiment and explore a new form of expression to enhance the musical experience."
And in true Rock Star style, they've hired a specialty firm - London-based Rivers Run Red - to construct both their avatars, and appropriately luxe lodgings for the lads. "Second Life is the future right now, offering endless possibilities for artists," Rhodes said. "Our community will be able to help develop the island into a fully functional, futuristic utopia, where you can never be quite sure what to expect." (via YPulse.com)
