"Yes, people often spend more on their pet than on themselves,” says Nela Kash, president of the Cali-based Couture Accessories Inc, which does made-to-order color-matching with gold plating and fancy stone embellishment. “A pet collar or harness is a pet’s most fashionable statement showing the world just how pampered and stylish he is."
With an extensive catalogue of over 400 detailed photos, pet owners can select both the color-category of their pet and the stones - cut & polished real, semi-precious (a combination of agate, onyx, and jasper) or European faux - that best enhance Fido's or Kitty's beauty. Products are made from hand-stitched harness leather, similar to that used on horses, and robust custom-manufactured gold-plated rims that can stand up to most any pet roughhousing. A percentage of the proceeds are donated to animal shelters.

A fun, retro way to think about getting dressed is the old-school technique of matching of bag and shoes. But these days, they don't have to technically match. While white & black are classic choices, more offbeat - but equally as fun - options include metallics, florals, prints, and hues like lipstick red & muted green. The main thing is: as long as they look cool together, enjoy building entire fab ensembles around them.

But in a recent piece in YPulse.com, it could be that MySpace has run its "cool" course and is headed for has-been-land. Part of the problem is technical, such as shoddy IM'ing, which actually reflects a larger potential problem: becoming way too corporate. "How many marketing deals have they signed this year? You can tell where their priorities are right now, and it doesn’t seem to be the user experience. Maybe I’m picky. In my gut, I feel it’s risking going the way of Friendster."
Others, such as Max Valiquette, President of Youthography, a youth marketing and consultancy firm in Toronto are more ambivalent about the cross-roads of pop culture & marketing: “What's amazing is how quickly MySpace has gone from being this sort of authentic, user-created and user-managed website to a massive corporate shill. It's not that I mind - I'm just amazed, in that five or six years ago (at the height of No Logo mania) there would have been a massive backlash to this sort of direct corporate involvement. Now there isn't, and I am glad about that: truthfully, I think this is far more authentic, far more real, and makes the involvement of marketing in culture more overt, which is how we need to treat it.”
While research shows that online types don't mind being marketed to as long as it's something they actually want/need, overkill on sites like MySpace could make them increasingly susceptible to niche sites like Tagged.com, Bebo.com, and MyYearbook.com.

Yes, all white is sweet-sweet-sweet. But to change things up, a full-skirted white dress just begs for a cropped knit top, especially in black with a pile of matching long necklaces. Vivid red kicks & bag add punch, while oversized Jackie O shades - in a dark color to play off the cardigan top - gives an air of high glamour.

What started as the humble concession stand of a Russian-Jewish immigrant at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair eventually grew to become the cosmetics dynasty of Max Firestein, aka Max Factor, Sr. The former makeup artist to the Royal Russian family, Sr. - evenually joined by son Frank who later changed his name to Max Factor, Jr. - were innovators in the feature film industry of the early 1900s, developing alternatives to grease paint for on-camera makeup. A staple in most every actresses kit by the mid-1920s, the Factors went on to develop a version that everyday women could wear, which they did - by the gazillions. By the time he passed away in 1938, Sr. was at the helm of a vertible empire.
Fifty odd years later, his great grandsons Dean & Davis started SmashBox Studios and Cosmetics, with testing done on makeup artists and employees instead of animals. In fact, their commitment to social responsibility is an admirable way-of-life choice, rather than just a marketing gimmick. And their products have achieved cult status amongst makeup artists, beauty insiders & normal chicas alike.
