When I was 16, my idea of having a band was someone similar to everyone else-I came up with an awesome name to back up the lack of musicianship, jumped on my bed while practicing singing to my favorite Cd's, and then putting the whole idea to rest as socializing became the priority of my free time. Which is what makes The Like so impressive. Z Berg, Charlotte Froom and Tennessee Thomas were all under 17 when they formed their band. Of course their roots were musical- Thomas is the offspring of Elvis Costello's longtime drummer, Berg the descendant of producer Mitchell Froom, and Berg the progeny of A&R man Tony Berg.
The thing is, while I hate female singers, The Like is awesome. Their CD is so fun to listen too, their drumming is amazing...and they are doing a string of dates opening for The Kings of Leon. I'll be there with bells on.
