Model Co. and Kusco Murphy top Fahsiontribes list of Beauty Must-haves-Check out the stuff we love for your face, skin and hair-Fashiontribes blog & podcast
The nature of our job is that we feel a need to review almost every beauty product on the market. My bathroom counter looks like Sephora exploded- from about 80 fragrances to tons of eye shadows, mascaras, blushes, and nail polishes, I like to have at least 20 of each product (or so it seems) on hand to be certain I will always have the right thing. Because we are EXTREMELY LUCKY, we get stuff sent to the office to test-which allows us to pass onto you our most favorite of favorite products.
MODEL CO.-The creation of former model agent Shelley Barrett, how could you not trust a line with fans like Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, Helena Christensen and Eva Herizgova. With a job as an agent, Barrett got to hear tons of wish-lists- all for products that were not on the market. With the creation of Model Co., she made those products available. A cult favorite in Australia, it has finally hit the U.S.. The Lipglass is a perfect, shiny and just-sticky enough gloss in the coolest flavours ever (think lychee). Wonderfull Lip Plumper comes either tinted (we love hot chocolate) or not. The brief Cinnamon-on-the-lips sensation fills out your pout to perfection. My favorite face product has to be their Heat Caps, which are a fabulous and quick working mask that heats up and leaves your face feeling totally rejuvenated. Because I love the softness of Tiara, I can't function without it-I pull my hair of my face for mask, make-up, tanning and face wash. I am in LOVE LOVE L-O-V-E with the Makeup Travel Bag which is a collaboration with cult status fashion designers Zimmermann. The pink and white prints-with palm-tree-esque designs are amazing. I especially love the largest size, which seems to fit absolutely everything you could need forever.
KUSCO-MURPHY -Another Australian import, Kusco-Murphy is the very top (in my book) of hair products. With tons of natural ingredients, their products are really amazing to smell, and work like a charm. I find Beach Hair to be the best of beach-y products. The fact that it actually has a sandy texture makes it really feel like you are putting salt water into your mane- but with an awesome coconut scent. Rockster Hair gives you just that-the hair of your Chrissie Hyndes dreams. Bedroom Hair makes you channel every fabulous Barbarella-esque star ever. With just enough oomph to make your do tousled and big, it is totally fabulous. Hair Creme with Lavender is so amazing smelling, it is addictive. It provides just enough hold to make any style work. I love it, because it makes my hair feel extra soft. For the ultimate in date hair, Tart Hair does the trick. It gives you the perfect tousle-tres chic
MASON PEARSON-I always thought an expensive brush was a ridiculous expenditure of my monetary funds. Then I converted. Mason Pearson brushes have a life of forever. The rubber and nylon bristle combo works miracles for tangled hair. The best thing is, they come in tons of styles-the Military has no handle, the Small is ideal for a purse, the Regular is bathroom worthy (and available in pink!) and the Comb is perfect post-shower.
TARTE-Rarely do I become enamored with an entire product line. Tarte-designed so women could actually reproduce cosmetic store beauty assistant ambushes at home-has everything I need to feel all prettied up. With new items-Eyeliner and Clean Slate Primer- and classics- Cheekstain, Eyeshadow, and Glistening Powder-- Tarte covers all your bases. I like their eyeliner-it's super smooth- in waterlilies or starry night. The cheekstain, which is a push-up, so it lasts forever and is easy to put on anywhere- is in a bunch of great colours (I love Tipsy). The plum tinged West Egg eyeshadow seems to never crease on me, and the glistening powder does the dewy thing seamlessly.
- Eyeliner in Starry Night (black) or Waterlilies (charcoal)
- Eyeshadow West Egg (plum) or Whiskey A Go-Go (peach)
- Clean Slate Primer
- Cheekstain in Tipsy
- Glistening Powder
TINTe- You have to have the lip colour covered. I think my addiction to Tinte stems from their amazing variety of flavours. Their Lip Shine does just that- makes slick, shiny pouts. I love all the flavours-the scents make them like a grown up Bonne Bell Lip Smacker. I am addicted to the Lip Colour in Root Beer. I can't bear to be without it- and I end up applying about 75,000 times daily.
...and because the most important thing to put on your face is mascara (if you have time or patience for nothing else, use it!) my fav is:
