As a fashionista, I can't really deal with most vegetarian places -- way too much stringy hair, b.o, and patchouli for my liking. Counter, on the other hand, features beautiful cuisine that just happens to not use meat or fish, and a fab wine bar of organic & biodynamic wines (biodynamic is farmed in accordance with the moon & cycles of nature - it's way earth friendly...all I know is, the wines rock).
The fact is, 50% of the people who eat at Counter are meat-eaters, a percentage that will no doubt continue to rise as this whole organic trend continues (case in point: organic grocery behemoth Whole Foods just opened another NYC outpost in Union Square). Counter's customers also began asking her about all-natural skin care, so they recently introduced a new line of preservative-free creams & lotions (preservatives are the major cause of many skin problems). It should be on sale next month at the restaurant.
If you've ever wanted to go one step further and try raw food, do it here. They've hosted a raw food menu, with wine tasting, by celeb raw food chef Chad Sarno, and everything is nicely presented (again, a "beef" -- sorry! -- of mine with most veg places).
