Road to the Red Carpet: Giorgio Arman's Tim Quinn Podcast
Giorgio Armani Beauty's head make-up artist Tim Quinn, gives up the 411 on the best of RED CARPET beauty for Emmy 2006 with what the different looks are going to be and we have it all for you so you can duplicate this hot new look for special events and holiday!
MP3 File
One of the best parts of attending celebrity based events is that you get to meet the experts in the fields of fashion and beauty. As I have interviewed Michael O'Connor for the Platinum Guild, meeting make-up artists is a real treat for me (probably because I am a beauty junkie!).
In my career which started out as a beauty and fitness writer, I have had the opportunity to interview many of the top make-up artists from both coasts and beyond. One of the key artists that I hadn't been able to interview was Tim Quinn from Giorgio Armani Cosmetics. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to score that "elusive" interview-- till this Emmy season! (must have been something going right in my chart or vibes).
Make sure you listen to the podcast to hear Tim Quinn tell you what;s hot for the Red Carpet and then you can use that for fab holiday looks!
What a treat to finally meet this great makeup artist who works on a list of celebrities that makes your jaw drop and he will just as easily sit you in a chair and work on YOUR face as well. I got him to spare us a few minutes and tell us what the "look" is for the Emmys and also how to work that look for fall and holiday.
Plus with the fabulous (and I do mean FABULOUS) Armani Cosmetic line that is so luxurious and can go from neutral to smokey in a split second with silky textures and luminous colors, there's no way you can go wrong.
Armani Cosmetics Blush
With the new colors and textures (SECRET: NEW foundation coming!!), it's easy to go crazy at the counter and then when you get someone as talented as Tim Quinn who can make plain people beautiful and the pretty people radiantly gorgeous, there's something special about having one of the key makeup artists apply stuff to your face. (He did say I had nice skin! That was nice to hear)
While you might want to pick up a concealer, a foundation and even the luminous silk in any number of colors, you definitely want to make sure that you get right foundation and also the palette of shadows. Each season there are new colors and the lip colors rock-- from the mattes, to satins to the sheers. The lip glosses are gorge and I have a couple of those and LOVE THEM!!
The new fall palette of gorgeous colors!
The newest thing I got to play with was the four comb mascara-- the newest addition to the mascara collection. This is a step up to the right kind of mascara for me! It's easy to use, doesn't get goopy ( I returned another brand's comb mascara because it took FIFTEEN minutes to apply!). This was a snap-- and it brushed out nicely. It's new and worth every penny. I follow it with Star Mascara too.
I was able to snag a few samples of things and you will get a blog (or two ) out of it-- particularly one where I use as I get dressed for the Emmys!
Listen to the podcast again and take some notes this time. Make sure you visit the Armani counter to check out the line to see what works for you and your budget. As far as I can see, there's isn't a single thing that doesn't work. The sheer cream shadow in a pearl color is gorgeous for a neutral eye with lots of mascara and a rich lip.
Something to think about! I would like to thank Tim Quinn, Kelly McNamara and also Jenia Molnar for their time, help and patience on the podcasts and me getting them up. These lovely people got me INTO the suites and I had the best time hanging out with them!!
See you at the next Red Carpet Suite!

Giorgio Armani Beauty Fragrance Expert Jenia Molnar gives us the latest scoop on Aqua di Gio for men and also Armani Code for women and what's coming at you from Armani fragrances that are "must haves"
MP3 File
What's better than awards show time? It's hitting all the suites and seeing what the celebrities are being gifted and being able to talk to the brands directly about what's hot, what's coming up for different seasons and finding out the scoop before it all hits the magazines!! There's nothing better I love than a scoop.
At the EXTRA EMMY Suite at the Hyatt Regency in Century City, it was SWARMING with celebrities in this penthouse with a gorge view of LA!. I was able to get into this fab suite courtesy of Giorgio Armani Cosmetics and Fragrances (thank you thank you thank you!!) It was the busiest place on earth!! I SWEAR!! It was PACKED with people, celebs, products, photographers and stuff. WOW.
Anyway, let's talk about the really important stuff-- Giorgio Armani Fragrances! Jenia Molnar was gracious enough to share some vital 411 about the latest from Armani fragrances and what's coming for holiday (Shhh!! You didn't hear that!)
Aqua di Gio is the men's gold standard of fragrance and smells fabulous. I personally love it! The holiday version has a HUGE size for gift giving that should satisfy the most ardent Armani fragrance fan!
Women aren't forgotten! There are new items from Armani Code
The Shower Gel is luscious and great for layering fragrance or creating that hint of scent. The Code Lait (lotion)
The lotion is simply amazing. Silky, soft and fabulous. It's not overwhelming and it leaves a lovely scent on your intimates too. Perfect for maybe scenting a drawer or just creating that layer of longer-lasting fragrance.
So check out the Armani counter nearest you or go online to the Armani website and get the new products because these are smokin'!

Road to the Red Carpet: Clairsonic Rocks the Skincare World!
Check out the podcast from Chris Healy who tells you all about Clairsonic (from the makers of Sonicare Toothbrushes) and why it will help EVERYONE get better skin from face to toes and make skincare work better because you have cleaner skin!
MP3 File
During Awards Season, it's typical for media and celebrities both to hit suites, often at the same time. You might not know who the celebrities right off unless they are immediately recognizable or you note the different color wristband. However at the EXTRA Suite at the Hyatt Regency in Century City in LA, there was NO MISSING the celebs there because packed into this corner penthouse was a ton of brands and even MORE celebs. One could even say the celebs outnumbered the media people and that's quite rare at these events-- unless they give the press one day and the celebs entirely different days to show up.
Luckily I was there in this huge suite that seemed teeny tiny when packed in with a slew of brands and people. The beauty products were in a separate room (wise idea) and in that exclusive group of products were some great brands-- including Clarisonic.
Clarisonic is that relatively new cleanser/brush that's a lot like the Sonicare Toothbrush. It works and acts just like a Sonicare Toothbrush because it's designed by the same person--just on a larger scale and proportioned for the face. Not just for women and girls-- though totally suitable but this device is definitely guy-friendly and is completely waterproof which makes it easily used in the shower for face and body!
It makes keeping skin clean and clear so easy!!
It's about getting your skin so clean that it makes your skincare about 50% more effective. Regardless if you have lines and dark spots or if you have breakouts and oily skin, improving the effectiveness of your skincare is downright CRUCIAL!!
As you listen to Chris Healey, you might think, this is corporate speak-- well it's NOT! I lurk and participate in some websites and I know someone who has the Clarisonic and she has absolutely phenomenal skin. (yes 54Sneakers, I am talking about you!). She swears by this and you can actually see how much better her skin looks from her previous avatar to her current one. It's VISIBLE improvement. She does use good skincare but with the Clarisonic she has seen better results. She's unbiased. She loves it and won't give it up. I think that's a sterling recommendation for this easy to use device,
The two heads make it easy to switch from normal to more sensitive skin. It's as easy as brushing your teeth- and it saves time because you can do it in the shower.
Where to buy? Try Clarisonic.com, Beauty.com, Nordstrom, Nordstrom.com , Bliss Spa, Saks Fifth Avenue and tons of other places like spas and doctor offices. Just check out the Clarisonic.com website.
You won't be seeing me TILL I use my Clarisonic!!

Seacliff Packaging-- Packaging is more than pretty looks!
Packaging that you see on a beauty counter or in a magazine spread or ad is more than just about how pretty the bottle or container is! Packaging also affects how well the product dispenses and about how fresh it is or how protected it is from contamination.
So make sure you listen to this podcast to hear about what Seacliff products you might have in your house!!
You won't recognize the name Vonda Simon or even Seaclif Packaging but when you get done with this blog and podcast there will be products you have IN your home or apartment that are in packaging created by Seacliff Packaging.
Packaging is the key to all products. No matter what the product is or what it's for, there's very little point without a package to dispense it-- from tubes to bottles to pumps to cans. Everything has a container
Sometimes it's what's inside the package that's most important-- much like the person who created and is the human dynamo behind Seacliff Packaging- Vonda Simon! This girly girl is more than just a pretty face-- and more than just the packaging guru behind so many lines that your jaw would drop (Guthy Renker, Murad, Inc., Bare Escentuals, and Rembrandt for example.). Vonda is a wife and mother to 2 gorgeous young children and she manages to do this looking absolutely stunning! (with or without the Manolo Blahniks!)
YUP!! That "covergirl" above is Vonda Simon and don't think for a minute that she's only a pretty face. This packaging wizard has developed
state-of-the-art commercial packaging for brands around the globe in cosmetic, skincare, healthcare and dental industries. She's a whiz at what she does. Why? Because she cares about doing the best job possible and not stinting on the product quality-- because she knows that the product is only as good as the container that holds it.

Vonda is known for her ability to see beyond the limitations and think " outside the box" -- or package.
With over 20 years in the beauty industry and a natural eye for aesthetics, Vonda's expertise is crucial to the success of the product-- because ultimately it comes down to the delivery system -- not just of the product inside the can but the can/jar/tube being able to dispense the product properly. For Vonda, it's pure excitement and when she took me on a tour of her showroom, it's inspiring to know just how MANY products she has been involved in and how many product brands I recognized. ASTONISHING-- yet also encouraging because Vonda has made her mark in what was typically thought to be a man's world and made it distinctly her own.
To Vonda, there is no such thing as not possible-- just things that haven't been accomplished yet and she's just the person who can do what others have been hesitant to do. She has no fear and she actually delights in helping nurture companies and helping them grow beyond their dreams and expectations because she helps the deliver a quality product in a quality package. Not only does she feel this way, but her entire staff emulates Vonda's determination to provide the best quality product possible.
Considering that she does all this and manages a family too--she's a true "everywoman" role model that women can admire and also use as a benchmark that yes-- you can do a great job, be exceptionally effective at what you do and be a wife and mom-- and gorgeous -- to boot.
Take a few minutes-- ok MORE than a few minutes-- to listen to the podcast and you will hear a dynamic woman in action as she explains the importance of quality, of family and how important her team is in creating the best possible packaging and containers for the clients of Seacliff Packaging. Vonda Simon-- she's AMAZING-- and next time you use that makeup brush, or shake out that loose mineral powder or use that pump dispenser-- most likely it came from her company!
See you at the beauty counter!

Rodney Cutler Gives You All the Tips for Gorge FALL Hair-- Courtesy of REDKEN!! Fashiontribes Beauty Buzz PODCAST and BLOG!!!
powered by Audioblog.com
MP3 File
One of the great things about my job is that I get to talk to lots of cool people. I get phone (and sometimes "face time) with stars of the beauty and fashion worlds-- not celebrities like tv or film -- but people who have achieved critical success in what they do to create beauty or create style either in fabric or in hair or cosmetics.
I have been on the hunt to talk to a variety of stylists, colorists about the coming trends in beauty as reflected on the fall 2006 NYFW runways. Who to turn to? Redken of course since they have a stable of great stylists who create the looks that both men and women will be wearing in magazines, runways and also on the street 6-12 months later. The key part of the runway looks is seeing the synergy between the fashion designer, the hair stylists and the make-up artists to create a look that best defines and reflects the intent of the fashion designer's collection.
Lucky me, I was able to talk to Rodney Cutler of the famous Cutler Salon . This uber-cutting edge salon (pun intended) has the best reviews for being unpretentious and creating looks/styles/colors that are do-able for "everywoman" and "everyman". Meaning -- even you and I can duplicate the look when we get home.
If you listen to the podcast you will hear Rodney Cutler tell me about the different looks that he did for the NYFW and what was covered in the Vogue Magazine/Style.com podcasts that I got to see a few months ago on the coolest little video Ipod. Rodney Cutler talks about the different looks and what he does (or did) to create the runway looks. For him it was about creating a "defining hair" look that was reflective of the collection and even an entire season.
Two of the key tips that I got from Rodney is that you
1) need a great cut and
2) great styling products.
If you can't see Rodney Cutler, take the download talked about below with you to your stylist and ask them to help you achieve that look.
The Redken products that Rodney Cutler recommends include the following items.
for those who color their hair-- you need Color Extend:
For those who want a straight look: try this product
Rodney mentioned Vinyl Glam
Body Full Weight Lifter will give limp locks some fullness and volume.
Other products to check out for super straight hair include Align.
For those of us who want more ringlets or definition to those curls and waves that we have!
To control that frizz and give you that great hair shine- OUTSHINE is the perfect product!
Thanks to Redken for connecting me to Rodney! As you can tell, he's an easy person to talk to and he has GREAT ideas!
FYI--another product we didn't talk about directly, but it's Redken for Men BULK UP Thickening Spray. Perfect for those guys with fine or thinning hair.
Want to see the latest in Fall 2006 trends and literally have Rodney walk you through the steps to create the different looks? Check it out at after September 5, 2006 at http://www.voguefashionondemand.com/ where you can see the different looks, learn the tips and tricks that are mentioned on this podcast. Definitely download them to an Ipod or MP3 so that you can take the teacher with you into your own bathroom and learn how to do the latest styles with the stylist who created them!!
(if I can, you definitely can do them--particularly that messy bun that I loved!!)
Visit Rodney's Salon at the following location (I think there's another one too! You can see Patrick the colorist whom I have spoken with for Beauty Buzz and Giovanni the stylist there too. )
Cutler Salon
115 East 57th Street
New York, NY 10022
(212) 308-3838
Thank you again to Rodney Cutler who gave Beauty Buzz a chunk of his valuable time to give us the best tips and tricks! (thanks to Redken for arranging this too!)
Now get busy and take a good look at those downloads to get the look and make sure you see what really works for your hair --or doesn't. If you can't duplicate the look at home, it's not right for you. That's not me talking, it's from one of the best, most popular stylists out there-- Rodney Cutler of Cutler Salons.
Don't forget to go shopping and pick up some of those cool Redken products. Me-- I am dying for the Outshine and Ringlet.
See you at the Redken Counter!!

Plank Brings You Skincare Plus a WHOLE LOT MORE!! Fashiotnribes Blog and PODCAST!
powered by Audioblog.com
MP3 File
Plank might be new to you but to Yogaphiles, it's definitely NOT a new name. For those who like the eco-aesthete of the line-- because they use bamboo for the mats, robes and towels, it's definitely made a huge splash in the yoga and 'green" (read eco-friendly) world.
The Bamboo Series is a great collection of robes, towels and mats that are made from bamboo but so soft--and get softer with each washing! Talk about making life easy--because bamboo is highly sustainable and it recycles well. I particularly like the whimsical touch of the ME towel.
.
What's really new and different from Plank is their new Silver Series-- i.e., silver infused soap that is both anti-bacterial and anti-aging (so it works for both men and women of ALL skin types). It's a beautiful presentation but does require a bit of thoughtful handling so it doesn't melt into a pile of goo but it's not a huge deal (keep it in it's zip lock baggie). It works exceptionally well on my dryer skin and helped clear up a couple of random blemishes. It was equally effective on someone's breakouts when I popped them a sample bar to test drive. So it's definitely an effective product.
There is a trick to using it: lather up your bar on your hands, apply all over face and let it dry. Rinse off and forget needing anything else --unless you really feel like you need a moisturizer.
It's a tad pricey but the big bar lasts a LONG time use!! So if you are a skeptical type, try the sample size kit of 3 tiny bars for $30 dollars (that's enough to last you at least for 90 days if not a smidge longer) and see how it works out for you. Typically after the first 30-45 days, you will see a tremendous difference and will be hooked!
So check it out at www.plankdesigns.com along with the other cool products that the line produces.
Also -- FYI.. you will see this line pop up again in my Road to the Red Carpet Series as Plank participated in the Silver Spoon Emmy Beauty Buffet. It was great to see Jennifer (featured on the podcast) in person.
See you at the Plank counter. I will be the one wrapped up in the cozy robe, snuggling into it along with that great ME towel and wearing that layer of COR lather on my face!!
