FRESH Gives You A FRESH Scent- Cannabis Santal EDP at Barneys Beverly Hills PA 3/30: Fashiontribes Beauty Buzz Podcast and BLOG!

Fresh is known for fabulous innovative products --including great bath products (Sake Bath); incredibly effective skincare products (Creme Ancienne); gorgeous cosmetics that provide that perfect look and amazing fragrances.
Newest on the FRESH counter is the fragrance Cannabis Santal.. a sexy, smouldering blend of potent ingredients sure to intoxicate any man or woman. Exclusive to Barneys New York stores, including the one in Beverly Hills, this eau de parfum is exquisite and delightful and sure to please anyone and everyone.
If you listened to the podcast (and if you haven't-- you should. You are missing quite a conversation with Fresh co-founder Lev Glazman. ), you know something already about this fragrance. What we didn't give you was the "back story" --the theme that inspired Lev to create such an exotic fragrance. I give it to you here because you must see this because it's the essence --the heart -- of the fragrance and will enable you to better appreciate the fragrance.
"It was early in the morning. She had to leave. She barely had time to make her flight. She was standing next to the bed, watching him sleep. She could still feel his touch on her skin. She found herself moving closer, smelling his lips and neck. His scent was intoxicating. She couldn’t move. If she stayed another minute she would never leave. He has become her addiction. If he only felt as deeply as she did.
She walked into the bathroom and sprayed his perfume all over, then slipped the bottle into her bag. She paused for a moment, then quickly walked out and closed the door behind her without looking back. "
Notes:
Top Note: Bergamot, Brazilian Orange (for zing and sweetness), Black Plum
Heart Note:a special proprietary accord that is the key to Cannabis fragrance-
Rose, Patchouli and a hint of Frankincense. ( There is more to this "heart" but we were willingly to keep mum when bribed with Cannabis Santal!)
Base Note: Chocolate, Vetiver, Vanilla Musk for warmth and sensuality.
One of the great things about this fragrance is that it's truly more effective and comes alive when applied to the skin. Merely spraying on the paper strips won't bring it alive-- it's so potent and that unusual.
On Thursday, March 30, 2006, Fresh Co-Founders Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg will make a special personal appearance at Barneys Beverly Hills to promote the fragrance as well as meet with those thoroughly addicted to the Fresh brand. This is a chance to talk to these very creative --and innovative-- people behind one of the most popular lines --not just in the US, but around the globe. The event is from 6-8 on Thursday and it's worth a trip into the store (have dinner, do some shopping, buy some Cannabis Santal) and talk to Lev and Alina!
The Cannabis Santal EDP fragrance is an exclusive with Barneys until April 16, 2006. After that date, you can find it at Saks, Neiman Marcus, Barneys, Sephora and Fresh stores throughout the country including the one in Sunset Plaza.

Jo Wood Organics: Jo Woods Talks About Her New Organic LUXURY Body Line Podcast and BLOG for Beauty Buzz Blog!
PODCAST: Jo Wood Organics: Jo Woods Talks About Her New Organic LUXURY Body Line Podcast and BLOG for Beauty Buzz Blog! - MP3 File
If you haven't heard about Jo Wood Organics, you haven't been reading your beauty magazines. This super luxe line of body care products is sweeping the country-check that-- try the world! This gorgous line is the baby of Jo Wood, wife of Rolling Stones guitarist, Ron Wood. Not a riff off the Stones' fame, but a line able to stand alone amongst some of the best of the products in the fragrance, body and organic categories.
Long a fan of the organic lifestyle, Woods started this line when she found very few products for the body that were both organic and luxurious. If you are going to spend serious money on great organic products and put it on your body it should 1) smell good and 2) look fabulous on the dressing table or in your bathroom..
The thesis behind Jo Wood Organics is that by limiting the chemicals and quantity of them applied to our skin, we can reduce the intake and absorption of toxins--which means healthier skin, hair and YOU!
Jo Wood --working in concert with a very talented chemist -- selected the highest grades of organic essential oils, essences, and plant extracts. Woods was extremely picky to use only accredited and audited growers--which means the products are pure and 100% natural! One of the most interesting facts about the line is that it contains no water, but features an ultra-filtered form of orange juice known as vegetal water which provides anti-oxidants to the skin.
The collection features just five product categories and done in two fragrances
the energetic Amka (Swahili for “to wake”) and Usiku (Swahili for “sleep”), a warm and sensual blend. Choose them based on mood.
Amka notes:
Top Notes: Neroli, Bergamot,
Heart Notes: Iranian Rose Otto, Egyptian Jasmine
Base Notes: Cedarwood.
Usiku notes:
Top Notes:Rosemary, Pine Needle, Spicy Cardamom, Hot Ginger
Heart Notes: Coriander, Clove, Clary Sage
Base Notes: Moroccan Cedarwood, Patchouli, Vetiver.
The five products include:
- Organic Bath Oil a highly concentrated fragrance oil that will revive body and spirit as it is added to running bath water. Available in Usiku and Amka
- Organic Body Oil is a rich moisturizer that contains extracts of gingko, guarana, and ginseng to step up the circulation. Apricot and grapeseed oils are rich in anti-oxidants and will protect skin against free radicals. Arctic Bilberry leaves skin soft and supple thanks to this valuable and rare Vitamin E rich oil. Available in Usiku and Amka
- Organic Body Lotion is a light, easily absorbed lotion that contains the active “organic orange water” which transports nutrients directly to skin cells to boost collagen production and improve tone Gingko, guarana, ginseng, and Arctic Bilberry are the other ingredients. Available in Usiku and Amka
- Organic Body Dew is the perfect energizer for the body and soul. This light spray fragrance contains orange water, gingko, guarana, and ginseng and will boost your spirits and energize your body when you feel tired and sluggish. -- Available ONLY in Amka
- Organic Body Soap a velvety soap combining Mexican honey wiht the softening and soothing effects of oatmeal. Available ONLY in Usiku
These products are the real deal and meant to be handled carefully. Those who know the potency of organic ingredients realize that organic essential oils are absorbed rapidly into the skin and reach the blood stream. It's potent stuff and can affect your physical and emotional being fairly quickly.
This is an evolution into high end organics and holistic skin and body products that are truly going to be good for your mind, body and soul –more than you would typically think of in a fragrance collection. It’s exceptionally unique and one whiff of an open bottle or the soap and you will know that Jo Wood Organics is something terrific!
Now that I have given you the basic 411 here, what's my take on this line? HEAVEN in a bottle. No lie!! Choosing a fragrance might be hard. Think about the different products and how often you use the product type and because I seem to change my scent daily (based on numbers of bottles on my dresser), I would recommend buying one product in one scent, and another product in another scent. If you are person who needs to relax more in the evening-- choose Usiku for the Bath Oil. It will give you a relaxing, sensual experience. Love to use fragrance in the AM to get you going? The Body Dew in Amka would be a great choice to give you an energizing start to the day! Also you might want to drop hints regarding this line for Mother's Day or give it as a gift for Mom or Dad. It would make an awesome gift for a bridal shower too. (just "enabling" you on reasons to buy this line.) Those who have purchased this line become addicted to the essential oils and its high quality.

Platinum Guild Sparkles and Dazzles at the Oscars with Jewelry and NewBeautyMagazine !!! FASHIONTRIBES BLOG and PODCAST !
PODCAST: The 2006 Oscar Suites: Colored Stones, Diamonds Galore, & Impressive Price Tags (Like a $1 million Ice-Encrusted Frock) Rule the Day at the Platinum Guild. FASHIONTRIBES BLOG & PODCAST - MP3 File
Stevie Wilson reports from the 2006 Oscar Suites & chats with Michael O'Connor of the Platinum Guild, which laid out a $16 million dollar spread for celebs to choose from.
What's cool about the Platinum Guild is that they always provide you the best of the best-- and everything else seems to pale in comparison-- from food to participating brands to the jewelry themselves. Moving to the Mondrian Hotel Penthouse ( that famed hotel on Sunset, high in the Hollywood Hills) , we arrived on a dismal rainy AM but the feeling inside the suite was anything but dismal or rainy. Popping with action, the camera crews from various tv crews both national and internationl were running around shooting for sound bytes with Jewelry and Fashion Expert, Michael O'Connor. Getting celebrities and stylists to show up was no problem despite traffic and tons of rain. Jaguar to the rescue! Jaguar provided chauffeured limo service to and from for stylists and celebs! What a way to kick off Oscar week!
While we wait our turn to speak to Michael (and thankfully, it was a pleasant wait).. we had lots to keep us busy.
NewBeauty Magazine rocked half the penthouse with cutting edge treatments for face and body. Cool brands were involved in showing off great treatments. On hand to represent New Beauty Magazine was:
Editor-at-Large, Marie Czenko Kuechel;
Editorial Director, Yolanda E. Yoh; and
Managing and Beauty Editor, Paige Herman;
NewBeauty participated to inform guests about cutting edge products so that they may make educated and proper decisions on skin care, anti-aging and cosmetic procedures.
- Signature facials were available from Actifirm-- (once you try this line of products and facials, there's no going back!). People --men and women were test-driving this very serious skincare line and coming out all pink and rosy.. VERY cool.
- Consultations with Osmotics and their new products like Eye Surgery which reduce dark circles 3 times faster than anything I have every seen. George Smart from Osmotics did this amazing treatment on me (I was almost the poster child for this treatment for Good Morning LA.. Thankfully I was done before they hit that part of the suite so that I wouldn't break the lens. There was video coverage and here's the link to see it Omsotics and New Beauty Editor on CNN.
- George Smart from Osmotics was doing "box office boffo" at the Osmotics table-- doing great treatments: the Osmotics LED: Photorejuvenation Facial that banished undereye circles and lines and thankfully he did me early so that I looked fabulous the rest of the day.
- Per-fekt is this 'second skin' color gel that smoothes, disguises, and perfékts your imperfections such as enlarged pores, fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tones. Enriched with antioxidants including alpha lipoic acid, vitamins A and E to help repair, protect, and fight future environmental skin damage, this lightweight gel helps hydrate hydrate the skin for a healthy, even glow by locking in moisture and absorbing excess skin oils. This stuff is luscious.; it feels so good going on the face. YUM.. lots of nice colors too. Talking to creator Richard Anderson helped me realize that I can use this instead of makeup and be getting great skin PLUS have effective treatment in one easy application. YUMMY!
- Jessica Nail Treatments were hot .. and everyone wanted a manicure and the lush treatments from Jessica Nails -- the key to perfect Hollywood nails!
- NV Perricone, MD representatives performed dietary consultations.
Once done with the NewBeauty Magazine suite, we moved back to talk to
Michael O'Connor the world reknowned jewelry and style expert about what was HOT for Oscar week.
There was a lot of bling and sparklers on these tables and already 30+ pieces had been borrrowed by stylists the day before, but you would never notice it. It's boggles the mind to see so much jewelry. After all the TV crews left, I had a chance to chat with Michael and it was pure gemological bliss!
Key Dazzlers:
The Black Orloff diamond. A 68 carat wonder originally owned by Catherine the Great, and passed down through the Russian royal family. According to O'Connor, it would be perfect for a Judi Dench or any other such grande dames capable of "a great statement look." Now tell me , who wouldn't want that in their Christmas stocking--hmmm? It's astonishing to see up close and it's almost intimidating as it requires a real personality to wear it!
For the pale hair & skin Felicity Huffman types, O'Connor recommends platinum and white diamond combinations, especially the necklace featuring $800,000 worth of Asscher-cut ice.
A one-of-a-kind $250,000 piece by a designer in China called "River" - matte finished & high polished platinum, onyx, diamonds, crystals & interconnecting little segments that make the piece look like a running river in the sunlight - finished off with platinum streamers down the back of the dress. This piece was incredible. More than just jewelry, it as a piece of wear-able art and moved along with the person so it "flowed" like a river and would have to be the center piece of the outfit, the gown being a subtle backdrop to set off the RIVER of diamonds and platinum. GORGEOUS!!! Unfortunately, no photo!
Earrings are always popular, especially anything with length & movement as favored by Reese Witherspoon. Ganjam from India, involve tasseled platinum with diamonds & a green emerald for just under $200,000.
Jeannette Fossa's jewelry is always stellar and these rough hewn ruby crystal number encrusted with ruby briolettes are to die for-- and who wouldn't want to wear them.
Diamond chokers & hairpins - especially made from perfectly cut Hearts on Fire diamonds.
The $1 million halter-style dress, made from 2 pounds of platinum, 300 carats of diamonds & cascading strands of platinum & diamonds. The dress was phenomenal and amazing and heavy as sin. So for most of us-- stars too-- they would prefer to wear something a little less heavy in diamonds and platinum and the Hearts on Fire Strand of diamonds set in platinum make the grade.
Color, color, color - pale pink morganite with diamond accents & platinum chains .. and don't forget this showstopper piece of Tri-Colored Sapphires from Jeffrey Bilgore.
For guys - younger fellas can rock a $250,000 bling-encrusted watch from Jacob & Company, a masculine diamond bracelet, or a winged lion pendant necklace. For the less bling-inclined: cufflinks & shirt studs, or a platinum & diamond lapel pin in nature-inspired shapes like a clover, or a diamond pave bunny.
Along with the beauty treatments and jewelry treats, the party atmosphere continued courtesy of AquaBar who provided an assortment of waters at the Aquabar’s Hydration Station®. The Station --an elegant, custom-designed oasis replete with orchids, moss, and sandstone--featured the healthiest and most refreshing liquids such as Finé Japanese Artesian Water, airforce Nutrisoda®, Flo - First Liquid Obsession, Metromint, and Harrogate Spa Water, the official water of Buckingham Palace and England’s Royal Family. I got to sample the coolest energy beverage that tasted fantastic and managed to finagle a couple extra cans for the road. The Hydration Station was quite popular-- more so than the champagne and other sodas simply because the waters were so unique. Each had a different taste and "mouth-feel".
For more 411 on these waters-- and where to purchase them (and YOU DO WANT THEM!!!), visit www.aquabar.ws
Yes there were swag bags galore! Want to know what was in them? Check back for another post on the sizzler goody bag from the Platinum Guild.

The Scoop from Surly Girl, LA's New Insider Source of Handbags, Accessories & Fab Hello Kitty Gear. FASHIONTRIBES BLOG
Surly Girl on Robertson Blvd (across from famed eatery The Ivy) has tons of hot new accessories and what they label "jewelry on bags". All the leather, from the totes to the evening clutches, is cut in Italy.
I met Allison from Surly Girl a couple years ago as she was launching the line. The basics were corduroy bags featuring a washable/wipeable lining that didn't stain if you spilled (or melted) cosmetics, drinks, pen ink onto. Smart girl! Great idea and the bags flew out of her SF showroom and eventuallly Allison moved to LA and opened up her Surly Girl boutique on that boulevard of hipness known as Robertson.
For Oscar week, she had a trunk show of the most gorge handbags, jewelry and also redone vintage clothing.
From Surly Girl's own line, :
- Fun colors such as sun gold (a neutral), lizard green & python prints done in leather... that were also varigated in color and tone. These were flying out of the store and several "unnamed"celebs who frequent Robertson for shopping have these bags-- in various colors and shapes but mostly the clutches are the hot seller.
- Swarovski crystals are featured on some bags.
- The signature corduroy "producer" purse & "agent" baguette still sell like hot cakes and have expanded in colors and sizes and now been reproduced in leather and suede (yummy!)
- Michelle Roy jewelery is featured with a good-sized display of her leaves and botanicals dipped in 24 K gold like mistletoe & birch leaves and worn on chains. Think Desperate Housewives and you will be on the money.
- lariats (very hot right now - throw over jeans & a tank)
- vintage jewelry with semi-precious pieces, and lots of layering of charms
- reworked one-of-a-kind +not-so-trashy chic" vintage clothing with appliques, sequins, cashmere. Some of these pieces were totally trendy and others --like a dress or a black coat-- were real collectibles and could be worn for eons as part of a showpiece outfit. I tried on the coat.. It was a real work of art with beading and lace and still warm enough to wear when you need it. (brand name to be determined. It's a local LA company and they are HOT)
- Surly Girl's signature line of soy candles made in L.A. with innovative scents like chocolate milk which smells like the real thing. YUM.. and other gorgeous florals and home scents.
- Hello Kitty everything: glittery calculators, flasks, lighters, keychains, bangles. They have the most amazing HK collection and there is something there for every price point. From grandmas to tweens have been picking up things from this collection.
- vintage owls from the 60s & 70s - each a little different (the owl are flexible & move with you) This is one of those "you gotta see it" collections. They are fun little items to wear around your neck, hang off a handbag or briefcase or just be hanging off your car mirror. It's just fun kitsch.
- The piece de resistance was the display of high end jewelry from the line Jewelry by Rosalina. YEOW!! GORGEOUS pieces done in dragons, frogs, and other kinds of animals with incredible detail. Not for the shy or price sensitive-- these items make an outfit and would be the only bling you would need . Rosalina's jewelry is typically found at Neiman Marcus.
